A look back at the winter that was – 2014

Port of Newcastle - entrance to the Marina2014 is almost over.  Gone with it are the freezing temperatures and snow storms. Not to mention the remnants of the ice storm from Christmas 2013. While the mercury dipped to unwelcome lows, the ice on Lake Ontario beaches made for some great photography.  At right, the icy entrance to the Port of Newcastle Marina.

Cold temps, gloomy skies and sunlight made for some dramatic skies last winter.  The cottage on the beach at Newcastle surrounded by ice and snow.

Ice volcanoes formed along the beach, spewing chunks of ice with each wave. Photos taken at the Port of Newcastle and Bondhead Beach.

A year of being published

14 12 2014

Twice this year, I’ve been approached by magazines who wanted to use one of my photos.  It’s been fun!

Travel Ontario contacted me through flickr mail and asked to use a photo of a sandcastle taken at Victoria Beach in Cobourg, Ontario. Always add keywords to your photos. You never know who is looking.

The second photo is the cover for the 2015 Winter-Spring Your Town Newcastle magazine and will feature a photo taken at the Port of Newcastle last winter. A reminder of the ice, snow and cold last year. Look for Your Town magazines at local businesses. I’ll post that cover after January 7th when the magazine is available.

Ezee Camera Strap

8 10 2010

Just a quick note to tell you about the best camera strap I’ve ever used. Who hasn’t had a sore neck or back after walking around with a camera all day? The Ezee camera strap keeps the camera secure while removing the strain from your neck and shoulders.  Excellent for use while hiking, riding or climbing.
